Years of persistent entrepreneurship and angel investing have led me to the wild, wild west world of breathwork - a realm I believe to be at the forefront of mental health and neuroscience. Explaining what breathwork truly entails is no easy feat though. What we know about the science of meditation is now being expanded into breathwork, through which studies are beginning to deconstruct and demystify the human experience. The implications of this lie deep in my Saturday curriculum as I study Neurodynamic Online Breathwork as taught by Michael Stone, Glenn Girlando and Saemi Nakamura - who, respectively, are students of Stanislav Grof and the first teacher to bring TAW ("Theory of an Advanced World" = Fractal Phenomenology + Fractal Psychology) outside of Japan/Japanese.
During "normal hours" I'm focused on Myndful, a refreshingly real consulting business — working collaboratively and creatively to solve problems that amplify human health and happiness. We concentrate on systems, strategy, and scaling in three core focus areas: new media & emerging technology, workplace performance wellness and affiliate marketing.
While I'm not deep in Notion or Slack doing Myndful work, I'm working on The Breath Circle podcast and The Inhale newsletter- focused on demystifying the art and science of breathwork and making breathwork cool - with my partners Conni Biesalski and Jonny Miller. We are also investing in content, community and maybe even an app for breathwork practitioners.
Jumping back to my entrepreneurship roots: In 2014, I cofounded Cadence Translate, a 500 Startups-backed venture started in Beijing, now providing top-tier language services to the global business and investment community.
Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, I worked in corporate finance and international business development at Scientific Games (NASDAQ: SGMS), a multinational lottery and gaming company. My focus was on financial modeling, due diligence and market entry strategies with frequent business travel to countries such as China, Russia, Greece, Turkey, Vietnam, and Mexico.
I began my career working in investment banking at Credit Suisse. After my internship in 2005, I spent the following 2 years in New York's media & telecom group, followed by one year in Sydney's mergers and acquisitions group.
A sudden health crisis related to Lyme disease and "toxin overload" derailed me from the path I was on and was the beginning of my spiritual awakening. Through 7 years of struggles with chronic pain, brain fog, anxiety and depression, I gradually discovered yoga, meditation and breathwork - and ultimately the power of the mind and the energetic connections that exist.
My health-related struggles unlocked a profound journey into vinyasa yoga, followed by deep study of ancient Vipassana meditation, and most recently a dive into the study of Conscious Connected Breathwork, which stems from the holotropic lineage of breathwork. I'm currently training to become a breathworker in order to coach and hold healing space for friends and family in need of support during turbulent times.
I hold a Bachelor in Business Administration from U of M's Ross School of Business, and while there, participated in a study abroad program in Salamanca, Spain. I was also part of a post-graduate Mandarin immersion at Tsinghua University's Inter University Program (IUP) in Beijing, followed by continued language immersion at CLI in southern China's rural Guangxi province. 我的中文还是还可以!
I possess a sharp eye for detail, which I use to find even the smallest errors in text. I have strong interpersonal skills and flourish most in ethnically and culturally diverse environments. I strongly believe that my success -- and the success of those around me -- lies in the power of mindset and the ability to unlock creativity.
I believe that emotions are Energy-in-MOTION, and that thoughts contain energetic qualities that can fuel powerful physical and chemical reactions in the mind and body.
I'm most passionate about mental health and the ability to program (and reprogram) the body & mind just like one would engineer a computer, an airplane, an automobile or any other complex machine (side note: as Atul Gawande taught us...with checklists, even the most complex processes can be executed with little failure).
Bodies come equipped with powerful healing mechanisms (HW & SW) that must be thoroughly considered in order to recover from trauma and chronic illness. I'm on a mission to crack [at least some of] that code.
I was born in New Jersey, raised in Florida and Colorado, and I am currently living in New Mexico. I'm an avid yogi and meditator, and a huge fan of complex machines -- particularly sports cars, airplanes and drones.
